Ryanair Family and Children Travel Policy.
Flying with children is exciting yet challenging, and it does not get easier when one has to undergo a flight travel. To help families fly more easily, Ryanair offers many family-friendly policies. Whether about the seating arrangement or baggage allowance, here's everything you need to know to make your trip as stress-free as possible while traveling with children on Ryanair.
What is the Ryanair seat policy for children?
When flying with children, Ryanair provides the following seat options:
- Children between 2-11 years have free seat selection.
- Children will be seated next to an adult who has paid for a reserved seat.
- The adult can choose up to four children's seats beside him/her free of charge.
- If an adult chooses a seat outside designated family rows, the adult will have to pay the difference in price for the seat.
- If a child is seated in a non-designated row, the child will be charged full price for that seat. So, choosing seats in the designated family rows is better when available.
How strict is Ryanair's children's policy?
Ryanair has a clear and strict policy to guarantee the safety and comfort of families traveling together:
- Children under 16 (accompanied minors) must always travel with an adult aged 18 or over. Unaccompanied minors are not allowed.
- Families are required to sit together. If there are no available seats, Ryanair will ask passengers to select a different flight to ensure families can be seated together.
- Ryanair does not allow those infants under 8 days.
- For mothers, one is allowed to travel after 48 hours of delivery from a normal birth; in case of cesarean section or surgery, they are allowed after 10 days with a letter of approval from the doctor.
What are Ryanair's guidelines for children's baggage allowance?
Ryanair offers different rules of carriage depending on the child's age:
- Infants (below 2 years) don't have a cabin bag allowance. However, parents can take a baby bag of 5kg with dimensions under 45 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm.
- The baby bag may contain the must-haves like diapers, bottles, wipes, and tiny toys.
- Children between 2 and 11 years old can take one cabin bag, which is not more than 40 cm x 20 cm x 25 cm. It has enough free space for all the kid's personal items, such as chips, sweets, or anything else.
How do I book an infant for a Ryanair flight?
Booking an infant is pretty easy on Ryanair. When you make your booking for an infant who is below 2 years of age, you must select "Infant" from the passenger type dropdown menu, and the baby will be added to the ticket. Applicable seating and baggage allowances will be applied. If your baby is 2 years old before your return flight, you will need to buy two one-way tickets-one for the outbound flight and one for the return.
Can Ryanair allow me to travel with a newborn?
Yes, Ryanair does allow you to travel with a newborn baby, but with specific age and medical requirements. It is advisable to consult with your baby's doctor before flying to ensure your newborn is safe to fly always.
- Ryanair only allows infants at least 8 days old to travel.
- A mother can travel 48 hours after giving birth, but only if no complications are present and Ryanair finds it safe to travel.
- If the mother was operated on, she must wait for 10 days and present a written approval from respected doctors before flying.
Is there a fee for carrying baby equipment onboard?
Yes, but Ryanair makes it easy for parents to carry baby equipment by putting a criteria in which:
- Two baby items per child can be checked free of charge, such as a pushchair, car seat, booster seat, or travel cot.
- Additional baby items can also be checked if their total weight exceeds 20kg. An additional fee will automatically be added according to size and weight.
What is my baggage allowance if I travel with a kid on Ryanair?
For those who are traveling with kids, Ryanair has baggage allowance guidelines that include:
- Parents or legal guardians are allowed to carry a baby bag up to 5kg, with dimensions 5 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm. The bag should contain baby essentials like diapers, wipes, and bottles.
- Children aged 2 years and above are allowed one cabin bag, which can be a maximum size of 40 cm x 20 cm x 25 cm.
- Furthermore, two baby equipment items, like a stroller or car seat, are free of charge for check-in.
Is Ryanair charged for carrying a special item?
Ryanair does charge extra to carry special items, like sports equipment, musical instruments, or larger luggage, but baby equipment is treated differently:
- Two baby items per child, such as a pushchair or car seat, are carried free of charge.
- A charge based on the size and weight of other special items or baby gear above the weight limit might apply.
