Aer Lingus Pregnancy, Infant and Children Travel Policy

The Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus serves Europe, North America, and Africa, and it has been connecting Ireland with the world for nearly a century. Aer Lingus is a reliable airline with its heritage and experience, and they are determined to make your every flight great. Suppose you are looking forward to flying with Aer Lingus and traveling with infants, children, or someone going through pregnancy. In that case, you must know about the rules and guidelines Aer Lingus has made regarding Pregnancy, Infant, and Children. One by one, let's take a look at the Travel Policy.

Aer Lingus Policy for Pregnant passengers

According to Aer Lingus's rules and guidelines, pregnant women can fly without any restrictions as long as they are given a doctor's allowance or clearance to travel. Although the allowance by the airline can vary from one route to another, to provide you with an idea:

  • Between Ireland and the United Kingdom: A pregnant passenger can fly up to 32 weeks of pregnancy with a doctor's permit. Those who have passed their 32 weeks must complete a form primarily for expectant mothers, which their doctors must do; any passengers who have crossed their 35th week are strictly prohibited from traveling.
  • All other routes of Aer Lingus: It is permitted to travel up to 28 weeks for pregnant passengers, although they will require a doctor's written allowance or clearance. Those between the 28th and 33rd week must get their Expectant mother's travel advice form filled out by their doctors. Aer Lingus restricts any pregnant women who have crossed their 34th week from traveling.
  • Pregnant passengers originating in Ireland, the UK, and continental Europe must complete their Expectant Mother Travel Advice form and fax it to 00 353 1 886 6868; they must also provide notice at least 48 hours before travel.

Aer Lingus Travel policy for Infants and children

Infants under 2 years old are considered passengers and require a separate ticket. The airline allows them to travel on an adult's lap or in a car seat. Children between two and eleven are also considered passengers and need a separate ticket with specific baggage allowances. Let's review the rules governing infants' and children's travel.

Rules for Infants (under 2 years old)

  • Infants under 2 years old can travel for free on an adult's lap but with specific fare conditions or in their car seat.
  • If more than one Infant travels with an adult under 2 years old, the adults must purchase one seat for each additional infant.
  • You can purchase a seat for your infant as a child, but you must bring their approved car seat and the applicable fees will be applied.
  • One fully collapsible stroller or buggy is allowed at the gate at a fee.
  • If an Infant turns two before the journey, they must pay the additional fees, fares, and taxes.
  • Car-type safety seats will be required for children aged between 6 and 36 months.

Children are between 2 and 11 years old.

  • An infant over 2 years old is considered a passenger and must purchase a ticket or a separate seat.
  • Children must travel in their seats.
  • The airline allows children to request a specific meal for them.
  • They may have a different baggage allowance when compared with adults.
  • On the Transatlantic routes, Aer Lingus offers a 10% discount for passengers between the ages of 2 and 11.

Important things to consider

It is suggested that Aer Lingus be contacted to inform them about the pregnancy and provide the necessary details. Also, it is important for the passengers to carry the necessary documentation like the doctor's prescription and notes.
